Cliff, cosmicharlie thinks the 12/31/90 Eyes is quite grand!
And dire is the King of time & space, he proclaimed me 25!

Yes--not that I know that one yet, but I gravitate toward EoftheW when going for 70s shows, and am always pleased; also like the OOne (though I miss CryEnv...guess Jerry didn't want to do that anymore after early 70s?) as Phil is often spectacular in versions of that through the 80s. Also like some of the jams involving NFA and even StSt though the slower pace of that one isn't as much to my liking as the faster early era versions.

Anyway, as the youngsters know, there is good material in later era shows that can appeal to us old timers, I just find more variation in consistency (to be expected; I suppose we all agree that Jerry didn't age well what with all the smoking and drug use, but who could have?).

This useless, aimless, annoying debate goes on and on and yawn. Who cares? I don't like much after 1972, but if they didn't play good/great music, they would never have made it thirty years. Each period is different. I can't imagine them playing DS>--St.S>--the 11>---lovelight forever. Pig died. T.C. left. Keith burned out. Brent o.d.'d Guitars changed. Songs were added. Audiences grew. Venues changed. Times changed. Bob's hair changed. So what? Look at your own lives and how they have changed!

I may not be fond of, say, 1990, but I won't put it down. I like some of the arrangements. I think the 1970 acoustic stuff is better than 1980, but I don't diss the latter.

We all like what we like. What's great about the Dead is that they gave us so much to choose from.

Nothing stays the same for very long, my friends. As the Pig used to sing, "the river keeps talking, but you never hear a word it says."

Right. That is it--they gave us so much to choose from. The shear volume they produced of often quite contrasting material is amazing.

I guess that is why we keep kicking it around. I can respect your disdain for the endless discussions, but as I have said before, I love well argued debates on why we love what we love (again, as long as no one confuses that with attempts to convince others to love what they love) as it only helps me refine my views and come to appreciate what others see that I do not.

We should always agree to disagree, but I hope we don't agree to stop talking about our disagreements (unless they become hurtful).

Of course--love a good debate. Hate a rude debate or a personality contest. Hey--I'd love you all to listen to XX/XX/19XX. Or if you don't care much for Brent, check out XX/XX/8X. But this sense of you are an asshole if you don't agree--sorry, I don't find that to be either intellectually stimulating, illuminating, amusing, or otherwise useful. I realize that there are some of you who live on this board and who feel a sense of entitlement, but starting off a thread by calling those of us who just don't care much for the Brent years morons. Not everyone gets the joke, if that's what it is, and tempers flare. Funny, I always thought the dead scene was different than that.

There is nothing you can write or say here that will offend me personally-that's not my point. I just find it hard to take someone seriously who cops an attitude before he finishes his first sentence.

That sort of bullshit keeps a lot of them lurker types in the shadows.

Meanwhile, if you don't think Pigpen was the greatest white blues singer ever, you suck donkey dicks.

it was a sarcastic response to what happened earlier in the opposite direction - that was all.

Right on (been awhile since I said that; could no doubt be a starting point for a 'discussion' too! Old timer jargon dates me).

You are absolutely correct, sir; I have tried to voice a call for our debates to be carried on in precisely the fashion you outline (which you did better than me), but I guess we just can't get all the folks to 'behave' all of the time. Oh well, we tried, and I guess, we will keep trying.

I will say that I always find value in your posts--you and the other good Doctor (Flashback), along with McGlone, Ashes and Arbuthnot among some others, were the reasons I upgraded from lurker to participant...you all always had something informative to say, and always said it a tolerant, 'no attitude copping' kind of way.

Say, if you haven't seen it, you might be interested in a book on orchids by John Alcock, which appeared in 2005, I think, from Oxford Press. Saw it the other day and thought of you; he is a very good writer (as a biologist I have read many of his other books) though this one might be more from an insect lover's perspective. Anyway, you might look it up if you haven't already.

Thank you--for the kind comments and the reference (I have read it--it's quite good).

I don't want to sound like an old curmudgeon; sometimes I, at least, miss the inside joke.

I do like the positivity with which a lot of you folks present your favorite tunes, shows, etc. What amazes me is how much discussion, downloading, etc. ther is of a band that has been defunct for 11 years!

That is due to the diversity of all of you and your opinions. If we all loved 2-28-69 and hated the eighties--what a dull world that would be. I would log on here if it weren't fun.

And I'm not throwing a shoe at you, Mr. Wolf (well, maybe a bootie). You may get overzealous, but you have much to say. As does Mr. Tell and all the rest.

You just have to understand that, unlike the rest of you, I am always right. Geeze.
